Canaries, like most birds, need their rest and will do best if given a light/dark (which simulates day and night) cycle that approximates natural changes.
Keeping them up late with artificial light is not healthy for them.

A Canary doesn’t sing during the moulting season. This usually happens during the summer, and lasts from 6 to 8 weeks (anything longer, or involving bald patches, is probably down to disease – see Finch Diseases, below).
